Anise hyssop ( Agastache foeniculum ) also is called the Black Jelly Bean Plant thanks to its licorice-scented leaves.
Note that anise hyssop, " Agastache foeniculum " ( also called blue giant hyssop ), is a very different plant, although both are in the mint family.
A book I found later in the house identified one as Korean mint ( Agastache rugosa ), which smells like root beer, and the other, a cousin, as anise hyssop ( Agastache foeniculum ), which has a slight licorice flavor.
